Words from Colleagues & Mentors

  • I’ve had the pleasure of working with Alexandra on two distinct projects, and she exceeded expectations in both. For Reading Rocket, Alexandra’s meticulous UI/UX research and high-quality Figma designs—aligned with the AWS Amplify design framework—were consistently on point. She provided multiple well-thought-out solutions for each feature, revealing her exceptional creativity and dedication to user-centric design. Her commitment to understanding teacher and student needs drove a product that truly resonated with its audience. Meanwhile, at Kid Smart AI, Alexandra leaned seamlessly into product strategy, designing the website and marketing materials with polished visuals and impactful messaging. She also took the lead in crafting engaging presentations for investors and customers—showcasing her versatility in both design and storytelling. Alexandra’s attention to detail, eagerness to explore multiple design directions, and skill in translating ideas into clear strategic communications make her an invaluable asset to any team.

  • Alexandra Gwynn has been a dream to collaborate with! What began as a tiny idea to keep our @NYEdTech members based outside of New York City connected to each other post-pandemic has grown into a true stand-alone community of its own in just a few months, thanks in no small part to Alexandra and her expert community-building and organizational skills. Moreover, Alexandra brings an intentional and highly attuned sense of the User Experience and a user-centered approach to everything she works on, from her professional career at an edtech startup to our NYEdTech Slack group, virtual meetups, and special events like the NYEdTech Hackathon. I appreciate the dedication and energy she brings to every aspect of her work that I have been involved with so far, and hope to support all her future endeavors as well.

  • Alexandra is a high-performer who consistently demonstrated thoughtfulness and diligence.... She is able to think outside the box and adapt to changing circumstances with agility. In her research project, Alexandra demonstrated a deep empathy with her interview participants and a keen awareness of their underlying needs. She is an effective communicator and crafted an engaging and compelling presentation with evidence-based insights and actionable recommendations. In addition, she is proactive in seeking feedback and assiduously incorporated the feedback for improvement. Overall, she demonstrated the depth of insights that would be expected of a professional UX researcher.

  • I have worked closely with Alex to build up the UX of EdTech community... and I have been blown away by the level of work she brings to the table and how quickly she has made a significant impact. She is able to take messy, unclear situations and make sense of them and design for them. She is an extremely curious multidisciplinary designer. Couple that with a strong level of professionalism, a wide range of past experiences, and an immense attention to detail, and you see a very capable designer. Anything that she touches is improved. Alex would be a priceless asset to any team. She is precisely the type of person you would want to entrust your most important work.

  • I have been collaborating with Alex for several months on organizing an EdTech hackathon. Alex was a problem solver and creator from day one, taking a vague half-baked idea and turning it into a flourishing project. She is a leader and genuine community builder who is fantastic at bringing people together for common purpose and elevating everyone to success in the process. She has demonstrated tremendous empathy as both a teacher and designer, guiding participants through complex concepts, creating a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere, and improving the user experience of our "product" (the hackathon). I will consider myself lucky if I am able to join Alex's next project.

  • I had the opportunity to mentor Alexandra in the first project of the UX Career Launcher program from the Harness Project. Throughout the 9-week progression of the project, she consistently demonstrated her ability to learn quickly and apply the UX theories into her project execution - from research to problem definition, then from ideation to producing the final design with high quality. Alexandra is also a strong communicator and has the ability to present her design clearly. It was a pleasure having her in my class!

  • I worked with Alexandra on 3 client projects through our bootcamp over an 8 month period. Alexandra stood out with her presentation skills and ability to build trust with both stakeholders and users. She communicates in a naturally clear manner, allowing the audience to deeply understand her reasoning. In our project with AWC, she went above and beyond in creating a survey for current users as well as interviewing 8 different prospective users. Her previous experience as a curriculum designer and teacher allows her to effortlessly empathize and build rapport with users. She is both warm and professional, allowing people to feel safe and open. If given the opportunity, Alexandra could shine as a UX designer and strategist on any team!! I would be ecstatic to work with her again!

  • I've had the pleasure of working alongside Alexandra on 3 projects. With each project, Alexandra came to class with all her data-driven research prepared. When she presents in particular, she is clear and paces herself accordingly to make comprehension come naturally. She has a talent of catering to user and stakeholder needs and quickly accommodating to what is necessary. With user interviews, she is able to thoroughly extract significant valuable insights to then translate them onto her designs....During our wireframe review on our last project with Digital Worlds Institute, her prototypes stood out to me as she took her research to streamline and standardize the portal, which was precisely what our stakeholders had wanted. She succinctly articulated her findings and the goals of her approach with her designs, taking into consideration any barriers and limitations that may arise as well....I highly recommend her, as she is an invaluable team player, effective and meticulous with all projects she takes on!

  • I am honored to recommend my colleague, Alex Gwynn, with whom I have had the pleasure of working closely at NYEdTech. She has been an incredible organizer, playing a key role in shaping our community while also contributing exceptional design work for the NYEdTech Hackathon. Her efforts have elevated the quality and professionalism of our initiatives, making a strong impression on participants and collaborators alike. Beyond her contributions to design and organization, her thoughtful approach and steady determination have been instrumental in growing our online Slack community from 0 to 500 members, and still growing. She communicates complex ideas with remarkable clarity and elegance, helping others fully grasp the depth of her insights and fostering meaningful collaboration. Her impact on NYEdTech has been invaluable, and I have no doubt she will bring the same level of dedication and excellence to any endeavor she takes on.
